How is the annual fee calculated, when it has to be paid, and what it costs to be late. Enter your CO₂ figure below for an estimate on the 2026 scale.
This calculator covers vehicles first registered on or after 1 January 2014, where the fee is built from CO₂ emissions plus a surcharge for Euro class and fuel type. Vehicles first registered before that date are assessed on engine capacity instead, and the figures are confirmed directly by the Road Transport Department (RTD).
This calculator applies to vehicles registered after January 1, 2014. For older classifications, please contact the RTD directly.
The 2026 window opened on January 7. Due to government portal technicalities, the strict deadline is officially extended to March 31, 2026.
Payments can be made for three, six, or nine months, or for the full calendar year.
Fully electric vehicles are currently 100% exempt from the annual road tax, supporting the island's transition to sustainable mobility.
Required for payment: valid MOT, active insurance policy, vehicle registration, and the last three digits of the owner's ID or ARC.
Missing the revised March 31 deadline will incur a mandatory penalty of €10, plus an additional 10% surcharge on the total annual tax amount due.
If a vehicle will not be driven in 2026, an official non-use declaration (immobilization) must now be submitted by the extended March 31 deadline.
Payments are processed exclusively through the Road Transport Department (RTD) website. The JCC Smart system is no longer active.
