Cyprus road tax calculator
In Cyprus, a road tax system is in place, levied on vehicle owners. This road tax is collected annually and is intended to fund infrastructure projects related to roads and transportation.
The road tax amounts depends on the vehicle’s CO2 emissions. For cars manufactured before September 2014, the engine’s Euro standard and fuel type are also taken into account.
The 2024 road tax payment period in Cyprus begins on January 4 and will continue until March 10. After this date, late payers will face an additional €10 fine, along with a 10% surcharge on the total annual tax.
Payment Periods:
Road tax payments can be made for three, six, nine months, or a full year.
A valid MOT certificate and insurance policy number are required.
Tax Exemption for Electric Vehicles:
Electric vehicle owners are exempt from paying road tax, at least for now.
Late Payment Penalties:
From March 11, 2024, late payers will incur a €150 penalty for overdue payments.
Vehicle Non-Use:
Those who do not plan to use their vehicle in 2024 on public roads, certificates verifying the vehicle’s status (such as temporary parking or disposal) must be provided.
Payment Methods:
Payment is available exclusively through the Road Department’s website (JCC Smart payment system is no longer used).
The car’s insurance policy number, vehicle registration number, and the last three digits of the owner’s ID or ARC are required for payment.
Important:
The Road Transport Department will accept certificates of non-use until March 10, 2024. Otherwise, the owner will be required to pay the road tax.
