2025 Audi Q5 unveils major upgrades in bid to retain Best-Seller status
06.09.2024
Dominic Stern, a marketing spokesperson for Audi, has stated that the Audi Q5 has been a huge success worldwide, surpassing all other models in the A1 to A8 series. The second-generation Q5, which was introduced in 2016 with a revised appearance and upgraded technology, continued its winning streak. The latest Mk3 model is said to further enhance the car's already outstanding features.
The newest Q5, which includes the high-performance SQ5 model, is built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) and draws inspiration from the design of the A5 and A5 Avant. The Q5 boasts a broad grille, modern LED headlights, and an updated badge on the front. Additionally, it showcases a continuous lightbar and adjustable LED tail-lights at the back.
Konrad Troger, the designer, brought attention to the width-enhancing rear design of the vehicle, showcasing the integration of a third brake light within the roof-mounted spoiler. The rear bumper boasts a wide mesh-like trim and stylish exhaust pipes reminiscent of those found on the A5, complete with Audi's iconic four-ring logo displayed on the bootlid.
However, despite the lack of changes to the exterior design, the updates to the interior of the Q5 are seen as much more significant. The vehicle now boasts a three-screen layout, drawing inspiration from the A5 and A6 e-tron models. Audi has introduced the 'Digital Stage', which consists of an 11.9-inch Virtual Cockpit, a 14.5-inch touch display, and a 10.9-inch passenger screen that allows for easy media and navigation control. The main screen supports Android Auto and can be wirelessly updated, with the added bonus of being able to download apps such as YouTube and Spotify directly into the MMI system. Additionally, the cabin comes equipped with convenient features like a 15-watt cooled charging tray and multiple USB ports, including a high-powered 100W port for larger devices.
As you sit inside the new Q5, you can immediately see the improved quality with Audi's 'soft-wrap' design that smoothly transitions from the dashboard to the doors. The customizable interior includes sustainable fabric choices such as Kaskade textile and Dinamica suede, catering to personal tastes and enhancing the luxurious feel of this mid-size SUV.
The latest model features an interior space and functionality comparable to the previous version, including a generous 520-litre boot that can be expanded to an impressive 1,473 litres with the rear seats folded down. The parcel shelf can be conveniently stored under the boot floor, and Audi provides an optional sliding and reclining rear bench for added comfort.
Audi is adding a Q5 Sportback to their SUV lineup, following the current trend. This sleek model, with a sloping roofline and distinctive tail-lights, is set to be revealed later this year. It will be the last combustion-engine Q5 as it transitions to the PPC platform from the PPE architecture. The Q5 will offer petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid options, including the high-performance SQ5 variant.
The base model will have a 2.0-litre TFSI engine with 201bhp and 340Nm of torque, available in front-wheel drive or quattro all-wheel drive. It will also feature an MHEV unit with a 1.7kWh battery that gives an 18kW (24bhp) boost when needed and can recover up to 25kW during braking. Another option will be a 2.0-litre TDI engine with 201bhp and strong torque figures, only available with quattro all-wheel drive. Both engine options will come with a seven-speed S tronic gearbox for optimal performance.
The Q5 TFSIe is expected to join the lineup in mid-2025, with initial specifications already confirmed. Both models will share a 25.9kWh battery providing over 80 kilometers of range and will feature a modified 2.0-litre TFSI engine, offering a combined power output of either 295bhp or 362bhp. The top-end SQ5 will come with a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine producing 362bhp and 550Nm of torque, along with quattro all-wheel drive and a torque converter gearbox. Audi has assured that the Q5 will maintain the brand's signature driving dynamics with neutral handling and enhanced comfort thanks to optimized suspension and steering. Customers will have a selection of 11 colors to choose from, along with various alloy wheel options ranging from 17 to 21 inches, including aero-optimized designs and forged wheels for the S model.
Enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of trims including Sport, S line, and Edition 1, with the possibility of Edition 1 eventually being replaced by Black Edition once initial stocks are depleted.
