2025 Bentley Flying Spur teases a 771bhp V8 plug-in hybrid
07.08.2024
A new Bentley Flying Spur is on the horizon, and while many details remain undisclosed—including the launch date for this next-generation luxury sedan—we do know that it will feature a plug-in hybrid V8 powertrain producing 771 horsepower and a robust 1,000 Nm of torque. For context, Bentley’s new ‘Ultra Performance Hybrid’ system delivers nearly 150 horsepower and 100 Nm more than the outgoing W12 engine found in the previous Flying Spur Speed. This makes the new model the most powerful and efficient four-door vehicle in Bentley’s 105-year history, according to the brand.
The powertrain, which is similar to that in the recently unveiled Continental GT Speed, consists of a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine paired with an electric motor. Bentley claims that the new Flying Spur will provide at least 72 km of all-electric range and CO2 emissions below 40 g/km, with a total range exceeding 800 km before it requires refueling—an impressive feat for a luxury sedan designed for long-distance travel. According to Bentley, the ‘Ultra Performance Hybrid’ powertrain represents the brand’s future, offering remarkable versatility that spans from supercar-like performance to quiet, effortless electric luxury. With this powertrain, the new Flying Spur aims to embody the ultimate Bentley sedan—combining power and tranquility.
The plug-in hybrid powertrain likely won’t be the only technology carried over from the Continental GT Speed. The new Flying Spur is expected to feature the same dual-valve dampers, dual-chamber air suspension system, and a rear-wheel steering system that enhances maneuverability at low speeds and stability at high speeds. Based on the teaser image Bentley released, the new Flying Spur doesn’t appear to have a radically different design from the current model, though there are noticeable changes, such as a redesigned front bumper and a new grille pattern. We can anticipate more design insights leading up to the car’s unveiling, which is expected to occur later this year.
