Ariel E-Nomad "production-intent" concept announced
05.09.2024
Ariel has revealed a new electric model of its off-road vehicle, the Nomad. This version replaces the traditional petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack. While still in the concept stage, the E-Nomad is being developed with plans for production, signaling Ariel's shift towards alternative power sources.
The E-Nomad is equipped with a rear-mounted electric motor that boasts an impressive 277 hp (281 PS) and 490 Nm of torque. This is in close competition with the Nomad 2, which runs on petrol and delivers 300 hp (304 PS) and 518 Nm of torque. Both vehicles are able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. The power from the electric motor is transferred to the rear wheels via a single-speed transmission and limited-slip differential.
The E-Nomad is powered by a motor that is fueled by a 41 kWh battery pack operating on a 450V system. This setup allows the E-Nomad to travel up to 240 km on a single charge. While Ariel has not revealed the peak charging speed, they have stated that the battery can be fast charged from 20% to 80% in less than 25 minutes. The battery itself weighs less than 300 kg, contributing to a total weight of 896 kg for the E-Nomad, which is 181 kg heavier than its petrol-powered counterpart.
The E-Nomad stays true to the original production model's design, with a tubular steel chassis and composite body panels that have been designed to minimize drag and weight. Its off-road suspension system is focused on absorbing bumps and providing ample travel, making the E-Nomad equally enjoyable to drive on both paved roads and off-road terrain.
Since it's still in the conceptual stage, the pricing for a potential production model has not been disclosed.
