Audi A2 reborn as electric restomod to mark 25th anniversary
22.10.2024
Audi has brought back the A2 in a surprising way, deviating from expectations of a Mercedes B-Class competitor. Instead, Audi's apprentices have created a unique electric restomod to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the A2. Despite its innovative design, the original A2 struggled in the market and was discontinued after selling just over 176,000 units from 1999 to 2005.
The new electric version, called the A2 e-tron, offers a modern take on the classic hatchback. The design has been refreshed with updated headlights, a cleaner front bumper, and a modernized rear with a light bar integrated into the spoiler. The addition of illuminated logos and aerodynamic improvements, such as the removal of traditional door handles and mirrors, enhance the vehicle's efficiency.
While exterior changes are prominent, the interior of the A2 e-tron also receives updates, including new seating. Details about the electric drivetrain and full interior features have not been revealed. Although the e-tron version will not be mass-produced, Audi has plans to introduce a new compact electric model in the future. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner hinted at a new entry-level EV in the A-segment, smaller than the A3 or Golf, but did not confirm if it would resurrect the A2 name.
