BMW iX5: Trademarks, Neue Klasse design, and fresh updates
04.08.2024
As we recently mentioned, BMW is in the process of refreshing the current generation 'G65' BMW X5 with a facelift. However, the German automaker is not stopping there. They are also in the works of creating an all-new electric vehicle option called the BMW iX5 SUV. The name has already been trademarked and the design of the vehicle is beginning to come together.
The BMW iX5 name was first used for the iX5 Hydrogen model, but a new electric version is set to debut in 2027. BMW has secured trademarks for variations such as the iX5 40, iX5 50, and iX5 60, expanding the options available for the electric SUV.
At the beginning of the year, BMW revealed the Neue Klasse X concept, offering a glimpse into the upcoming generation of BMW's electric SUVs set to debut in 2025. One of these future models is the iX5, which is anticipated to bear a strong resemblance to the updated X5, drawing inspiration from the design of the Neue Klasse X.
The iX5 will not be based on BMW's Neue Klasse platform like the X, but will instead utilize the CLAR architecture of the facelifted X5. Production of the Neue Klasse models is scheduled to start in 2025 at BMW's new plant in Debrecen, Hungary, with the iX5 expected to debut towards the end of 2026 and go on sale in 2027. In the meantime, the BMW iX SUV will receive a facelift this year to stay current until the iX5 arrives. It is unclear if BMW will directly replace the iX with the iX5.
