Denza Z9GT packs 1,000bhp and ‘crab-walk’ tech

29.08.2024

Although Denza may not currently have much brand recognition, the Chinese automaker has ambitious plans to rival Europe's top luxury marques in the near future. The Z9GT, their latest offering, is poised to take on competitors like the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo. Originally a collaboration with Mercedes, Denza is positioned as a more upscale brand within BYD's portfolio. With a UK launch on the horizon within the next 18 months, Denza's lineup currently includes the luxury-focused D9 MPV and the N7 mid-size SUV. The Z9GT represents a significant step forward in design for Denza, with BYD's design chief Walter Egger overseeing the project. By blending Far-Eastern influences with modern Bauhaus principles, the Z9GT boasts a sleek and globally appealing design that distinguishes it from other Denza models.

The Denza Z9GT falls between the Taycan Sport Turismo and the latest Porsche Panamera in size, boasting a longer wheelbase for increased cabin space. It utilizes the e-Platform 3.0 from BYD Seal and employs BYD's 'blade' battery technology with a 100kWh pack, offering a range of 630 km. Available in multiple versions, the most powerful Z9GT features a tri-motor powertrain delivering approximately 1,000bhp and accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 3 seconds. The Z9GT is equipped with rear-wheel independent steering for 'crab walk' functionality and a tight turning radius of 4.2 meters. It can adjust ride height by up to 50mm and boasts a luxurious interior with a central touchscreen, smartphone chargers, panoramic roof, 'zero-gravity' front seats, and front and rear fridges. Pricing for the Z9GT starts at 339,800 Chinese yuan in China.
