Ferrari’s first ever EV spotted testing
26.09.2024
Ferrari is currently testing its first-ever all-electric model, and the early prototype is still in the experimental phase, giving little away about its final design. However, some details hint at what we can expect when the renowned supercar manufacturer potentially launches the vehicle in 2022 or early 2026. The prototype, based on a Maserati Levante, suggests that the electric vehicle could be a four-door car, possibly a sleek crossover rather than an SUV, similar to the Purosangue.
Compared to its V12-powered counterpart, the electric prototype seems lower, with a shorter windscreen. To meet Ferrari's high-performance standards, it is likely to feature a dual-motor setup for all-wheel drive. While details on power and performance are still unknown, it is expected to position itself against electric vehicles like the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Lamborghini's upcoming electric model.
One of the key challenges will be maintaining Ferrari's signature essence, including its distinctive sound. It is speculated that Ferrari will enhance the natural noise of the electric motors, taking inspiration from Porsche and Lotus. Additionally, advanced features such as fully-active suspension and rear-wheel steering from the Purosangue are anticipated to ensure that the electric Ferrari maintains the driving dynamics that define the brand.
The prototype's large wheels suggest that it may come equipped with hefty carbon ceramic brakes. Since Ferrari is taking a cautious approach to entering the electric vehicle market, the development process could be lengthy, possibly delaying the production model's debut until 2026. Nonetheless, anticipation is high, and Ferrari's foray into electric vehicles is bound to be a major event in the automotive world.
