Hyundai confirms Ioniq 9 name for new large electric seven-seat SUV
02.09.2024
Hyundai has confirmed the official name of their much-anticipated electric seven-seater SUV as the Ioniq 9. This flagship electric vehicle, inspired by the Hyundai Seven concept from 2021, will feature a futuristic design drawing from the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 models. The technical details are set to be similar to the award-winning Kia EV9.
It is still uncertain when the Ioniq 9 will be unveiled, but speculation suggests it could make its first appearance at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November. This is the same event where the Hyundai Seven concept was originally introduced. Despite being concealed under heavy camouflage, leaked images of the prototype showcase a unique front design featuring vertical running lights and pixelated LED headlights akin to those seen on the Ioniq 5.
The Ioniq 9's side profile showcases a stylish design featuring a sharply angled windscreen and a gradually sloping roofline, setting it apart from the more boxy Kia EV9. This design choice draws inspiration from the streamlined Ioniq 6 sedan, but could potentially impact headroom for passengers in the third-row seats.
The finalized version of the car will not feature the avant-garde interior design seen in the initial concept, which means that unique elements such as rear-opening doors and a minimalistic layout will not be incorporated. Instead, the Ioniq 9 is anticipated to draw influence from the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 models, including a dual 12.3-inch display system and cutting-edge Hyundai software. The vehicle will retain physical buttons and individual climate controls as well.
The Ioniq 9, sharing the E-GMP platform with the Kia EV9, will provide comparable battery and motor selections. With a 99.8kWh battery, the EV9 can be equipped with a 201bhp motor or a 379bhp dual-motor configuration, enabling a range of almost 560 kilometers on one charge. In addition, the Ioniq 9 will be equipped with an 800V charging system, permitting a rapid 10 to 80 percent charge in only 24 minutes.
The possibility of an N model for the Ioniq 9 has not been confirmed, but the Ioniq 5 already has an N variant and there is potential for an N version of the Ioniq 6 in the future. The larger size and weight of the Ioniq 9 may not make it suitable for a sporty N model.
