Jaguar GT set to debut as the first in a trio of luxury lineup
12.09.2024
Jaguar is evolving into a luxury brand, with managing director Rawdon Glover revealing plans for the release of three new cars within the next three years. The initial model, a four-door saloon, is set to be revealed by the end of the year, with deliveries to customers beginning in late 2025 or early 2026. Following this, Jaguar will roll out a coupe to compete with the Bentley Continental and a large SUV. Glover stressed that the brand is focused on quality over quantity, emphasizing that customers will desire a Jaguar rather than simply require one.
The Jaguar design team has showcased multiple design choices to important decision-makers, with the selected design earning praise as ‟jaw-dropping‟ from Mardell. This innovative design approach, chosen through a fast and cooperative process led by Gerry McGovern, JLR's chief creative officer, is poised to reshape the brand's image.
The original three new models plan has been updated, with a SUV being exchanged for a two-door, four-seat GT model inspired by Bentley's Continental GT. The new Jaguars will have a consistent design language to maintain a cohesive brand identity. Mardell highlighted the significance of having a unified look across all upcoming models.
Within JLR's Reimagine strategy, Jaguar is set to undergo a full reboot without any intentions of replacing current models. The focus is now on repositioning Jaguar as a luxury brand, alongside Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery, forming the four 'brand pillars' of JLR. The ultimate objective is to replicate the success of the new Defender, which has not only tripled sales from its predecessor but also achieved a higher price point.
The Solihull plant will manufacture the new Jaguar line-up, which includes three cars, along with the all-electric Range Rover. The flagship GT model is expected to be the most powerful Jaguar ever produced, exceeding the I-Pace in range and charging capabilities. While full performance specifications have not been revealed, Jaguar promises the new model will offer up to 700 km of range and can gain 320 kilometers of range with just 15 minutes of rapid charging. Furthermore, Jaguar will provide owners with a charge card for access to the Tesla Supercharger network.
Jaguar executives emphasize that the brand is driven by the innovative vision of its founder Sir William Lyons, who championed the creation of exceptional and inspiring vehicles. With a strong emphasis on bold, aspirational design and performance, Jaguar aims to embody exuberance and fearlessness. The leadership team is excited about the future of the brand, seeing it as a promising avenue for growth and groundbreaking innovation.
All upcoming models will be constructed on Jaguar Electrified Architecture (JEA), a custom-built platform. According to Nick Collins, JLR's executive director of vehicle programs, JEA is tailored specifically for the Jaguar brand, offering a level of excitement unmatched by any other vehicle platform globally. In a strategic move, Jaguars will now only be sold at select retailers alongside Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery, with the possibility of boutique sales points in the future.Lennard Hoornik, JLR's chief commercial officer, confirmed that the second and third models in the new lineup will be introduced shortly after 2025. The goal for Jaguar is to enhance its position in the market, even if it means decreasing sales volumes. The company aims for an overall sales figure of 50,000, on par with Range Rover at the higher end. The F-Pace will be the only current model to remain in the lineup until 2025.Design chief Gerry McGovern explained: ‟Our previous strategy aimed for broad appeal and competition with mainstream premium brands, leading Jaguar to lose its unique identity. We are now reimagining the brand to reclaim its distinctiveness.‟
