Lucid teases upcoming Tesla Model Y competitor, launching in 2026
13.09.2024
In 2026, Lucid Motors is set to launch its highly anticipated electric SUV, poised to compete with the Tesla Model Y. Priced below $50,000 (€46,000) in the US, this new model will introduce Lucid's innovative mid-size platform and advanced Atlas drive unit. CEO Peter Rawlinson promises improved efficiency and performance, aiming to rival emerging competitors like the Rivian R2.
Lucid's innovative technology allows the SUV to achieve a competitive range with a smaller battery compared to its rivals. CEO Rawlinson emphasized, ‟Our vehicles travel farther using less energy, resulting in substantial cost and weight reductions as we expand our production.‟ A sneak peek at the SUV showcases a stylish, aerodynamic design with a sloped roofline similar to the Kia EV6, suggesting impressive efficiency and range capabilities.
Furthermore, Lucid is in the process of developing a sedan to rival the Tesla Model 3, built on the same mid-size platform. The exact release date for this sedan is still up in the air. Lucid has experienced significant growth, exceeding their projected 2023 sales numbers in just this year. They have also spread into various European markets such as Germany and Switzerland. However, the introduction of right-hand-drive models is still uncertain. Rawlinson has shown interest in tapping into the right-hand-drive market, but noted that current engineering priorities and resource limitations are posing a challenge.
