Ultra-luxurious Mercedes-Maybach SL grand touring convertible spotted
05.08.2024
Maybach has been enhancing its presence in the luxury segment of the Mercedes lineup, recently spotlighting models like the GLS, S-Class, and EQS. Now, the Maybach SL is on the horizon, and we’ve spotted it testing for the first time. Earlier this year, Mercedes-AMG unveiled the Purespeed Concept, marking the beginning of its new, exclusive Mythos series. However, it has been confirmed that the Maybach SL will not be included in this series, as the initial teaser for Mythos featured a sleek speedster profile with pronounced humps behind the cabin. Instead, the Maybach SL will retain the standard SL body design.
Even with camouflage, the spy photos suggest that the Maybach SL will showcase the brand’s signature elements, such as intricate multi-spoke wheels, a larger grille, and more refined exhaust tips. It is also expected to feature a redesigned front bumper and side skirts, along with a distinctive Maybach emblem on the hood.
Interestingly, this prototype does not have a charging flap at the back, indicating that the Maybach SL will not offer the plug-in hybrid system available in the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 E Performance. Instead, it is likely to be powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine delivering 577 horsepower. The starting price for the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 in Ultimate trim is approximately €211,000, but the Maybach SL is expected to exceed the €233,000 price tag of the plug-in hybrid SL 63 S E Performance Ultimate.
The interior of the Maybach SL is likely to resemble that of the standard SL, featuring a 12.3-inch digital driver display and an adjustable 11.9-inch infotainment screen in the center console. However, it will provide a more luxurious environment, allowing for extensive customization options, including a variety of materials and finishes.
In 2021, Maybach introduced a concept for its version of the EQS SUV, and in 2022, Mercedes’ Chief Design Officer, Gorden Wagener, revealed a teaser image of the Maybach Concept SL. Given that the Concept EQS SUV closely mirrored its production version, we can anticipate that the production version of the Concept SL will follow suit closely.
