The 2024 BMW M5 Touring is back, packing 717bhp plug-in hybrid powertrain!
29.08.2024
Introducing the highly anticipated BMW M5 Touring, a 717hp plug-in hybrid high-performance estate, taking aim at family haulers from Mercedes-AMG and Audi RS. BMW M doesn’t always offer an estate version of its high-performance saloon, but the M5 Touring is making a comeback after the E61 model from the mid-2000s, now featuring a more efficient powertrain compared to the previous V10 engine. Sharing the same powertrain and chassis upgrades as the new M5 saloon, the M5 Touring combines striking design with impressive performance.
The M5 Touring is equipped with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, an electric motor, and an eight-speed transmission, delivering an impressive 717hp and 1,000Nm of torque to all four wheels. This powerful combination allows the M5 Touring to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds and achieve a top speed of 250 km/h (or 305 km/h with the BMW Driver’s Package). Furthermore, the electric motor can propel the car for up to 68 km on electric-only mode, thanks to its 18.6kWh battery pack. While it may have a shorter range compared to the AMG E 53 estate, the M5 Touring offers unparalleled performance with the dynamic duo of its V8 engine and electric motor.
The BMW M5 Touring is a high-performance driver's dream, thanks to BMW M's signature chassis innovations. The specially designed body of the M5 Touring boasts a 75mm wider front and 48mm wider rear, along with reinforced stiffening measures throughout the engine, transmission tunnel, and rear axle. Although additional bracing around the luggage area slightly reduces cargo space, it still provides 500 liters with the rear seats up and up to 1,630 liters when folded down. In comparison, the standard BMW 5 Series Touring offers between 560-570 liters, while the AMG E 53 only offers 460 liters due to its raised boot floor.
The M5 Touring boasts a state-of-the-art all-wheel drive system that seamlessly transitions between all-wheel and rear-wheel drive modes. It is equipped with BMW's electronically-controlled limited-slip differential on the rear wheels and advanced chassis technologies including customizable drive modes to fine-tune the powertrain, brakes, dampers, steering, all-wheel drive, and regenerative braking. The vehicle comes with staggered forged wheels measuring 19 inches in the front and 20 inches in the rear, paired with Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
The M5 Touring is BMW's top-of-the-line estate model, featuring advanced technology such as M Sport seats, active safety features, and a dual-screen infotainment system. The luxurious interior includes Merino leather and optional full-length glass roof. The M5 Touring will be available for purchase early next year.
