New Mercedes-AMG EV set to outshine the Porsche Taycan
02.08.2024
Fresh spy images of Mercedes-AMG's highly anticipated flagship four-door electric vehicle have unveiled more of its design and technological features as it sheds some camouflage. This high-performance model, aiming to compete with the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Audi E-Tron GT RS Performance, takes inspiration from the 2022 AMG Vision Concept. With a sleek and low-profile design featuring frameless doors and large wheels, the new vehicle will showcase a unique bonnet and sophisticated silhouette, departing from previous EQ models. While still concealed at the front and rear, the car's low front end and distinctive Kamm-style tail design are clearly visible. Unlike its EQ predecessors, this new model will be constructed on a specialized AMG.EA platform, incorporating state-of-the-art technologies like axial flux motors for enhanced power density.
The upcoming custom-designed platform will support the car's bold proportions and feature 21-inch wheels and advanced chassis technology. Drawing inspiration from the AMG Vision Concept, expect to see design elements like vertical strakes and Mercedes' new three-pointed motif in the headlights. Official teaser images of Mercedes-AMG's new all-electric super saloon have been released, showing the car being tested in true AMG fashion: sideways. The car is rumored to have a flat battery pack and dual-motor layout capable of producing up to 1,000bhp to compete with the Porsche Taycan. It is also expected to have high-end chassis components like rear-wheel steering and innovative suspension technologies. However, this level of performance and luxury will come at a price, likely putting the flagship EV in the same league as top-tier Taycan and Audi e-tron GT models, with a starting price well above six figures. Mercedes-AMG has announced that the new model and platform are still in the early testing phases, with plans for extensive testing before its anticipated release in 2025. More information will be shared in the coming months as development progresses.
