New Mercedes GLB arrives for 2026 with more space and versatility — though not more style

06/12/2025

Meet the all-new, second-generation Mercedes GLB: a boxy, bold seven-seater that looks familiar but feels thoroughly upgraded. The silhouette remains almost cubic — tall roofline, short overhangs — but the stance is sharper, the details more assertive. Sleek headlights carry the three-pointed star signature, the grille is studded with 94 tiny illuminated stars, and even the huge centre badge can glow. A full-width rear light bar repeats the motif, so there’s no mistaking the badge on the move. Step inside and the cabin announces itself with a monolithic dashboard inspired by Mercedes’ latest models. At the top-spec end you get the Superscreen trio: a 10.25-inch driver display, a 14-inch central touchscreen and a 14-inch passenger screen — the latter even able to stream video while you drive. Lower-spec versions keep the same instrument cluster and central display but trade the passenger screen for a textured panel.

The fourth-generation MBUX infotainment adds a ‘zero layer’ homescreen that surfaces the functions you use most, full Google Maps integration, an AI assistant, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The centre console floats beneath the main screen, keeping the button count intentionally low. There’s space for a smartphone — wireless charging is optional — and a roomy open compartment underneath for daily clutter. Owners asked for physical controls on the wheel, so Mercedes added rocker switches for audio volume and adaptive cruise control: a rare nod to tactile convenience in a high-tech cabin. Space is a headline claim. Compared with its predecessor the new model is almost 100 mm longer and the wheelbase stretches by 60 mm, and the benefits are tangible. Rear-seat legroom grows, underthigh support improves and headroom is generous; in a studio check six-foot occupants sat comfortably in the middle row.

Panoramic opacifying glass — again studded with tiny stars — comes as standard and enhances the airy feel. Mercedes fits seven seats as standard in the UK market, and accessing the third row is easier thanks to wider rear doors and a sliding, folding second row. Practicality is strong: five Isofix points (front passenger, two in the middle row, two in the rearmost) make installing child seats straightforward. Fold the third row with a single tab and you open a 480-litre boot; slide the second row forward by up to 140 mm or fold the rear seats and luggage space expands to 1,605 litres.

The electric variant adds a 127-litre ‘frunk’ under the bonnet — ideal for muddy boots or sports kit. Underneath sits Mercedes’ compact MMA platform, and the powertrain line-up spans hybrids and pure electric. First out is the GLB with EQ Technology: the GLB 250+ packs an 85 kWh battery and a single electric motor driving through a two‑speed transmission — an uncommon but efficiency-friendly choice. Range is claimed at up to 630 km, and the motor produces around 272 hp. The 800‑volt architecture enables charging at up to 320 kW, allowing rapid replenishment of more than 260 km of range in roughly ten minutes. Want more pace and traction? The GLB 350 4MATIC adds a front e-motor for all-wheel drive, trimming the 0–100 km/h sprint from 7.4 seconds to 5.5 seconds while still offering up to 613 km of range when the extra motor is disengaged on the road. Towing capacity tops out at two tonnes, and the towbar can carry up to 100 kg of bikes or gear. More electrified variants and plug‑in hybrids will follow, using a highly compact 1.5‑litre turbocharged four‑cylinder paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that incorporates an e-motor. That arrangement allows low-speed electric driving in town and efficient, engine-off cruising on the motorway.

Multiple power outputs and both front- and all-wheel-drive layouts will be offered. Availability and pricing: used earlier-generation models can be found from just over €23,600, while new hybrid GLBs are expected to start around €47,200 – €53,100, with the electric GLB likely near €59,000. The new GLB is already on sale in Germany and is due to arrive in Cyprus showrooms in early 2026.
