No More Fake Exhausts! Audi Vows Genuine ‘Hot Pipes’ for ICE Cars
02.08.2024
Audi has announced that moving forward, their petrol, diesel, and hybrid cars will no longer have fake exhaust pipes. This decision comes after feedback from customers who were unhappy with the current trend of non-functional tailpipe trims molded into the rear bumper. Instead, all Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) cars will now have functional exhaust pipes. Many current Audi models, as well as cars from other manufacturers, have hidden their exhaust tips below the bumper due to design complexities and safety concerns, which has been criticized. Audi's move to make all PPC cars have functioning exhaust tips is in response to customer feedback and aims to enhance the overall vehicle design. While it is unclear if smaller MQB-based Audi models will also see this change, all larger PPC-platform Audis will feature functional exhaust tips going forward. This change will begin with the A5 model and is expected to continue with future models like the Q5, A7, Q7, and potentially a successor to the A8. The removal of fake exhaust pipes from petrol models will also result in a cleaner rear design for Audi's electric vehicles, including the Q4, Q6, Q8 e-tron, and the upcoming A6 e-tron.
