The Alfa Romeo Stelvio large SUV is scheduled to be revealed in 2025 as an electric vehicle, as confirmed by outgoing CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato. However, he noted that potential market demand could lead the company to explore alternative fuel options in the future. The new Stelvio will be manufactured at the Cassino factory in Italy and will be the first model in Europe to utilize the STLA Large platform focused on electric vehicles by Stellantis.
While specific details about the Stelvio's features have not been disclosed, it is anticipated to offer rear and four-wheel drive options, support battery capacities ranging from 85kWh to 118kWh, and incorporate 800-volt electrics for rapid charging. The vehicle will also include active anti-roll bars, terrain detection capabilities, and a curved dashboard display with over-the-air update capabilities.
Although the initial plan is for the Stelvio to be entirely electric, Imparato suggested that mild-hybrid petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains are being considered as well. Alfa Romeo may adopt a diverse approach to fuel options if electric vehicle interest does not meet projected levels. The company's stringent regulations mandate strong electric vehicle sales to continue offering petrol powertrains.
In addition to the Stelvio, the successor to the Giulia will also be manufactured at the Cassino factory beginning in 2026. Stellantis is making substantial investments in its Italian facilities, with intentions to produce five electric vehicles on the STLA Medium architecture in Melfi.
