Following the Cabinet meeting on June 25, 2025, Cyprus has approved a new €2.5 million grant scheme to boost electric mobility across the country. Announced by Transport, Communications and Works Minister Alexis Vafeades, the initiative is designed to strengthen the adoption of fully electric and hybrid vehicles through state-backed incentives.
Electric mobility, Vafeades stressed, is a core priority of government policy — an essential move in Cyprus’s broader push toward cleaner transportation and environmental sustainability. The scheme aims to make electric and hybrid vehicles more accessible to citizens, whether new or used, by offering direct financial incentives.
Before the new scheme is rolled out, the ministry will redistribute 97 vehicle grants and 18 motorcycle grants from the third round of the previous electric mobility program. These were initially linked to applications that were either cancelled or unfulfilled.
A total of €2.5 million has been earmarked for the upcoming round, with 260 new grants available — mirroring the terms and amounts of the previous scheme. Importantly, individuals who purchased or ordered vehicles after the earlier scheme expired may also be eligible to apply.
According to Vafeades, around 100 unused grants from the previous round will be re-released first. Once those are claimed, the new €2.5 million package will come into effect. "There is continuity," he noted, "which ensures the full utilization of funds originally set aside under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, before transitioning into the new scheme."
The program will continue to operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Details on grant categories, application dates, and full terms will be published shortly on the Road Transport Department’s website.
