Great Wall Motor is preparing the Ora Cat, a crossover revealed through filings with China's Ministry for Industry and Information Technology. It joins the Ora 03 hatchback in the brand's electric range.
The styling follows its 03 sibling — retro-influenced, but with a higher ride height, roof bars and a more adventurous stance. The rear is the distinctive part: a clamshell tailgate with tail-lights integrated into the lower sections of the rear windows.
Size and specification
The Ora Cat is substantially larger than the 03 at 4,471 mm long, 1,833 mm wide and 1,641 mm tall, on a 2,720 mm wheelbase. That wheelbase does most of the work for interior space and stability.
GWM has not published full powertrain figures, but filings indicate a 201 hp electric motor with a lithium-iron-phosphate battery supplied by Honeycomb Energy. Feintech is contributing by-wire braking and energy recuperation systems.
Driver assistance is expected to be extensive in the Chinese domestic market, potentially including roof-mounted lidar alongside cameras and side radar. European specification will be confirmed closer to the anticipated 2026 launch.
What this means for a buyer in Cyprus
Start with whether it will be sold here at all. A car announced in Chinese regulatory filings is several steps away from being registerable on the island.
LFP chemistry is a genuine advantage in this climate. Lithium-iron-phosphate batteries tolerate heat and full charging better than nickel-based chemistries, and they degrade more slowly under the charge cycles most owners actually use. On an island where cars sit in direct sun for much of the year, that is not a footnote.
The questions to ask are the same for every new marque here. Who services it in Cyprus. What the parts lead time is. What happens to the warranty if the importer changes. What it will be worth in four years. A marque with two decades of local presence has answers; a first-generation entrant does not yet.
Road tax will be in the lowest band. Cyprus calculates on CO₂, so any fully electric car sits at the bottom regardless of size or power. That is a real saving worth quantifying against a petrol equivalent before comparing purchase prices.
