Alpine A390_ß concept teases the brand’s leap into EV SUVs
13.09.2024
Alpine is set to introduce its latest concept car, the A390_β, on 11 October, marking its entry into the electric crossover SUV market. Referred to as a ‟sport fastback,‟ the vehicle is scheduled for release in 2025. The A390 name reflects Alpine's simple model naming convention, with the letter A followed by three digits. The number signifies the vehicle's size, larger than the A110 sports car and A290 hot hatch, while the 90 indicates a more versatile, everyday model. The beta symbol indicates that it is a concept vehicle. The teaser image provides a shadowy glimpse of the A390_β, hinting at a sleek, aggressively sloping roofline and a sporty profile similar to coupe-SUVs like the Cupra Tavascan and Polestar 4. Alpine promises that the A390_β will embody the brand's ethos, offering a ‟uniquely Alpine crossover for every lifestyle‟ and a ‟model fit for every purpose.‟Built on the AmpR Medium platform (formerly known as CMF-EV), which also underpins the Renault Scenic and Nissan Ariya, Alpine plans to enhance handling by modifying this platform. Former Alpine engineering head Gilles le Borgne suggested in 2021 that the A390 could feature a triple-motor setup, including a 215bhp electric motor on the front axle and two additional motors at the rear, potentially delivering between 450bhp and 500bhp.After its debut, the A390_β will be displayed at the 2024 Paris Motor Show alongside other new releases like the updated Renault 4 and Dacia Bigster. This model is part of Alpine's larger strategy for a lineup of electric vehicles, including the A290 hot hatch and an updated A110 sports car. Future plans involve an electric roadster based on the A110 and a four-seat sports coupe reviving the A310 name from the 1970s and 1980s. Alpine aims to launch seven new models by 2030.
