BYD Enters Cyprus with Three Electric and Hybrid Models

25/06/2025

Chinese automotive giant BYD is making its debut in Cyprus with the launch of three electric and hybrid vehicles, marking a bold step into the local market.

The company’s first showroom is set to open in Nicosia within days, followed by a second location in Limassol this June. Together, the showrooms represent a €2 million investment. Notably, Cyprus becomes the first EU country to introduce BYD’s next-generation showroom concept — a fresh take on the traditional dealership model.

The Nicosia showroom will be located on 28th October Avenue in Makedonitissa, adjacent to the Electroline store, also part of the Sfakianakis Group. Limassol’s showroom is slated to open in Agios Athanasios, with a dedicated service center launching soon in Tseri.

According to Alpan Group — BYD’s local partner — vehicle sales can begin immediately thanks to available stock. In the event of high demand, new vehicles can be ordered and delivered within days, avoiding the prolonged waiting periods typical in the industry.

During a recent test drive event in Athens, BYD models impressed with premium design, refined interiors, and materials that challenge long-standing biases about Chinese manufacturing. The cars deliver a driving experience on par with — and in some cases superior to — more expensive European rivals. Test drivers praised their comfort, road grip, and confident handling.

“Our ambition is to become the number one car brand in Cyprus,” said Stavros Takis, CEO of the Sfakianakis Group, during the Athens launch presentation.

Three models are launching in Cyprus: two all-electric and one plug-in hybrid.

BYD SEAL – A sleek D-segment electric sedan available in two versions: a 313 hp rear-wheel drive “Design” model with a 570 km range, and a 530 hp all-wheel drive “Excellence-AWD” version with 520 km range and 0–100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. Built on the e-Platform 3.0, it features BYD’s Blade Battery and Cell-to-Body technology for enhanced performance and safety.

BYD SEALION 7 – A mid-size electric SUV offered with either 313 hp RWD (550 km range) or 530 hp AWD (520 km range, 0–100 km/h in 4.5 seconds). Both variants support ultra-fast DC charging up to 230 kW.

BYD SEAL U DM-i – The brand’s first plug-in hybrid SUV, featuring Super DM technology. Two versions will be available: a 218 hp front-wheel drive “Boost” model (80 km electric range, 1,080 km total), and a 324 hp all-wheel drive “Design” model (70 km electric range, 870 km total). Both come equipped with an 18.3 kWh Blade Battery, supporting 11 kW AC and 18 kW DC charging.

While official pricing is yet to be confirmed, company insiders suggest a competitive strategy that may send a “mild electric shock” through the local car market.
