Nissan Qashqai EV 2026: Bold Electric SUV With 640 km Range and Hyper Urban Design

The automotive world is buzzing with excitement as Nissan embarks on a bold transformation of its electric vehicle (EV) lineup! The spotlight is shining bright on the new Leaf, a critical addition to Nissan’s portfolio, alongside the much-anticipated return of the Micra, now reimagined on the ultra-cool Renault 5 architecture. As the brand charges ahead, the immensely popular Qashqai is set to go fully electric in the near future, while still offering its hybrid variant for those who love a blend of power sources.

But that’s not all! Rumor has it that an entry-level EV is on the horizon, based on the upcoming Renault Twingo, and loyal fans of the Juke can also expect electrifying news, with the possibility of it sharing technological innovations and platforms from its sibling brand, Renault. The excitement just keeps building!

Now, let’s talk about the game-changing CMF-EV architecture, currently underpinning the fully electric Renault Scenic family SUV, which could have been a key contender for the Qashqai EV. However, the emergence of Renault’s new AmpR Medium platform is fueling anticipation for what comes next. Already showcased in the Renault Embleme concept, this platform is set to shift the dynamics of the compact C-segment cars, which includes the Qashqai.

Xavier Tesson, Nissan Europe’s Product Planner, shared insights about utilizing Renault’s cutting-edge AmpR Medium platform for future models. “We are open to partnerships, especially as we navigate the exciting yet costly realm of electric vehicles,” he declared. “The Micra is a testament to how collaborations can create a win-win scenario for both Renault and Nissan. Our strategy is all about finding the most efficient approach to launch Nissan’s electric models.”

As the automotive landscape shifts, the next generation of the Qashqai will fully embrace electric power, seamlessly transitioning from today's hybrid technology powered by Nissan’s innovative e-Power systems. The commitment to exclusively launching electric vehicles in Europe underscores a significant turning point in automotive history, marking the end of combustion engines for this iconic model. But fear not; the hybrid version won’t vanish overnight. Tesson assured us, “We are transitioning to full-electric, but there is a necessary overlap for now. Different customers are gravitating towards either electric SUVs or hybrids, so our dual offering is essential until we witness a broader transition.”

While technical specifics remain under wraps, we’re optimistic that the Qashqai EV will boast impressive stats. The similarly-sized Renault Scenic EV, built on the previous CMF-EV platform, manages to achieve an impressive range of approximately 610 kilometers on a single charge. With the new AmpR Medium architecture, we can anticipate the Qashqai EV crossing the 640-kilometer range threshold!

If you’re itching to get behind the wheel of the current model, it’s available at a competitive starting price of around €35,000. Alternatively, for those looking to make the leap to battery power, a variety of electric SUVs await – like the Skoda Elroq starting at approximately €36,500 or the charming Renault 4, priced around €32,500.

On the aesthetic front, Nissan has shared an intriguing glimpse of the future Qashqai through the striking Hyper Urban concept, first unveiled before the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2023. The company hinted that the next Qashqai will draw inspiration from this dramatic concept. Our exclusive visuals highlight the concept’s eye-catching profile while suggesting how the bold surfacing can be refined for production models. We anticipate the new Qashqai to measure approximately 4.5 meters, creating ample space above for the new Leaf and potentially a future seven-seat flagship model, all within a sleek and functional design.

The Qashqai is just one of three models confirmed for Nissan’s Sunderland facility, supported by a tremendous investment package worth up to €2 billion. Alongside the next-generation Leaf and the all-electric Juke, the future of Nissan in the EV market has never looked brighter! Keep an eye on the horizon for more thrilling developments in the electrifying world of Nissan!
