Electric hypercars may not be readily available in showrooms, but that didn't stop one enthusiast from ordering a custom, roofless version of the Pininfarina Battista. Meet the Pininfarina Battista Targamerica, touted as the world's first bespoke electric hypercar. This unique vehicle combines Pininfarina's iconic design heritage with the individual preferences of a discerning owner. Among its personalized features is an aluminum and glass cigar holder designed for three cigars—one more than the car's seating capacity—along with a built-in humidor. In the absence of a roaring engine, why not savor a fine cigar instead?
Unveiled during the 2023 Monterey Car Week, the Targamerica took center stage at this year's event. Drawing inspiration from one of Pininfarina's most renowned custom projects, the Ferrari Testarossa Spider commissioned in 1986 for Fiat chairman Gianni Agnelli, the Targamerica's silver exterior in 'Argento Liquido Gloss', complemented by blue and black accents, pays homage to the iconic Spider. The horizontal lines on the luggage compartment also pay tribute to the Testarossa. Meticulously crafted details include Iconica Blu pinstripes on the rear underwing, ceramic-polished five-spoke alloy wheels, and a brushed and anodized 'jewelry pack' accenting various parts of the vehicle. Inside, the cabin features tan leather, custom headrests with an embossed Automobili Pininfarina 'F' logo, and a matching luggage set.
Mechanically, the Targamerica mirrors the standard Battista—if you can call a 1,869 bhp electric hypercar 'standard'. Pininfarina asserts that it maintains the incredible performance of the Battista, achieving a 0-100 km/h time of under two seconds and a top speed exceeding 300 km/h. Just be sure to keep a steady hand, or your cigar might go flying.
Automobili Pininfarina CEO Paolo Dellachè stated that the car ‟demonstrates the infinite possibilities our highly skilled team can design and engineer.‟ Chief Technical Officer Andrea Crespi added that ‟this commission pushed us to maintain Battista's performance without the structural support of a hard roof, leading to a truly innovative, one-off solution.‟
While the exact origin of the Targamerica name remains unofficial, it appears to be a fusion of two familiar words.
