Porsche to launch Cayenne EV, joining petrol and hybrid lineup

Porsche has announced that it will keep selling its traditional combustion-powered Cayenne alongside the new all-electric fourth generation Porsche Cayenne SUV, scheduled to debut in 2025. This decision diverges from Porsche's previous strategy of discontinuing the combustion-powered Macan once its electric replacement was introduced. The move is a response to Porsche's concerns about the slow embrace of electric vehicles. CEO Oliver Bloom has confirmed that the current Cayenne will receive updates and continue to be produced alongside the new electric model beyond 2030. This means that Porsche will have a lineup of three models, including the current combustion-powered SUV and Coupe, as well as the upcoming electric version. The fourth generation Cayenne is currently in development and will be based on the EV-exclusive PPE platform used for the new Macan. However, this platform is not compatible with combustion engines. As a result, the current petrol and plug-in hybrid Cayenne, based on the MLB-Evo platform, will have to stay in production until at least 2030, as there is no suitable platform for traditional engines in the future. Nevertheless, Porsche remains committed to electrification, aiming to have more than 80% of their new vehicles fully electric by 2030. This strategic shift reflects the evolving automotive industry and changing customer preferences toward electric vehicles.
