MINI cars in Cyprus

The catch is that condition hides most easily on a small car: at the advertised price a cared-for example and a neglected one look identical, and the difference between them is the gearbox, the suspension and the air conditioning. Which versions are worth importing
The Cooper S is the balance point of the range: quick enough to enjoy, cheap enough to run, and the version the used market values most predictably. The John Cooper Works is a different proposition — faster, firmer and more expensive to keep, and worth importing only if you actually want that car rather than the badge. The five-door and the Countryman are the sensible choices for a family that still wants the size. The Convertible makes more sense here than in most of Europe, simply because the weather allows it.
A used MINI: what to check
Service history first, because a MINI that has been maintained on schedule and one that has not are two different cars at the same price. On automatic cars we go through the gearbox history, then the suspension, then the wheels and sills, where town driving leaves marks that an advert never shows. Air conditioning gets its own check: in Cyprus it is not a convenience, it is the reason the car is usable in August. On the sportier versions we look at how the car has been driven, not only how far.
Common mistakes when buying
The first is choosing the John Cooper Works for the name and then meeting the running costs. The second is forgetting run-flat tyres, which cost more than the class suggests and are not always available on the island at short notice. The third is comparing advertised prices instead of the final landed price in Cyprus. The fourth is buying from photographs and a description, which on a small used car hides more than it shows.
Where we source from and why
For MINI we source in the UK, and the reasons stack up. It is the home market, so the choice of specification is widest and main-dealer history can be traced. The cars are right-hand drive, which is what Cyprus requires. The three-door, the five-door and the Convertible with petrol engines are built at Oxford, so the car is of British origin, and that tells when the import is costed. Price and what ownership costs
Cars in stock in Cyprus carry a price in the listing. A commission gives you one final landed price — car, shipping, duty and VAT where applicable, registration and our work — confirmed in the agreement before anything is paid. Road tax is calculated on CO₂ output, and this is where a MINI is genuinely cheap to own: the petrol cars sit in the lower bands rather than the upper ones, and an electric MINI pays nothing at all.
