In Transit
In transit from Japan, arriving in Cyprus in February 2027. This M440i xDrive Convertible can be reserved before it lands. There is a reason to. In 2022 BMW M turned fifty and marked the year by bringing back its original tricolour roundel — the 1970s badge with the three stripes — on the bonnet, the boot lid and the wheel centres, for that model year only. Most buyers never ticked the box. It wears the 50 Years emblems on a Mineral White body over Mokka brown Vernasca leather.
Mineral White is BMW's warm metallic white, the one with a fine flake that reads as pearl in late afternoon light. Here it sits under a black fabric roof, on 19-inch 792 M double-spoke wheels, with Individual satin chrome trim in place of the usual brightwork around the glass and the grille. The brown leather inside is the part that gets noticed. White over brown is the combination people choose when the vehicle is meant to be photographed at the marina rather than merely parked there. It still looks correct on the day it is sold on.
Under the bonnet is the B58, BMW's 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance, producing 386 hp and 500 Nm through the eight-speed Steptronic and xDrive all-wheel drive. 100 km/h arrives in 4.9 seconds and the limiter steps in at 250. The build adds the hardware that makes the number feel honest: the M Sport differential, Adaptive M suspension, M Sport brakes and variable sport steering. On the climb to Troodos the differential is the option you feel first — the nose goes where it is pointed and the rear follows. The fabric roof folds in 18 seconds at up to 50 km/h, so a red light at Germasogeia is long enough to open it. Consumption settles around 8.3 litres per 100 km combined, with CO2 of 197 g/km.
Cyprus has around three hundred days of sunshine a year, so the question with a convertible here is never summer. It is a January evening on the Limassol seafront, roof down at sixteen degrees. This one was specified for exactly that. The Air Collar blows warm air onto the neck from the head restraints, the front seats are heated and the wind deflector takes the turbulence out of the cabin. Four full seats, with a boot of 300 litres roof down and 385 roof up, make it a convertible that does the weekend rather than just the photograph.
The cabin runs BMW Live Cockpit Professional with the 12.3-inch digital cluster, a head-up display, Harman/Kardon surround sound, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting and the TV function. Comfort Access unlocks the doors as you reach them, the front seats hold memory and the dashboard is wrapped in Sensatec with M Aluminium Tetragon trim. Driving Assistant Professional covers the motorway with adaptive cruise, steering assistance and the traffic-queue function, while Parking Assistant Plus with 360-degree cameras handles the other end of the trip. BMW Laser Light reaches further down an unlit road than standard LEDs.
It'll arrive with Japan's paperwork. The auction sheet grades every panel before anyone bids and this M440i scored 4.5 — the grade given to vehicles with no accident history, no corrosion and only the lightest marks of use. 44,500 km in three years is a convertible driven on smooth, salt-free roads and serviced to the schedule.
Reserve it now — in February it will be handed over with Cyprus plates fitted.
