Electric vehicles still make up a small share of Cyprus’s roads, despite various government incentives encouraging their adoption. Although the number of electric cars has been growing year by year, traditional fuel vehicles continue to dominate the market. Hybrids, meanwhile, are gaining ground more quickly—showing that most Cypriot drivers are taking a cautious, step-by-step approach toward going fully electric.
Between 2019 and 2024, registrations of electric and hybrid cars have increased steadily but remain a minority:
2019 — 37,802 passenger cars registered; 54 electric, 1,884 hybrid
2020 — 30,828 registered; 78 electric, 2,338 hybrid
2021 — 26,634 registered; 120 electric, 4,513 hybrid
2022 — 26,598 registered; 512 electric, 6,103 hybrid
2023 — 36,608 registered; 995 electric, 10,819 hybrid
2024 — 1,529 electric, 14,246 hybrid on the road
The upward trend is clear, but modest. Even with incentives and greater availability, most Cypriot motorists still prefer conventional cars—suggesting that electric mobility has yet to become the norm.
