Facelifted Volvo XC90 debuts alongside the new electric EX90

Volvo will introduce the new XC90 on September 4, which will be added to the all-electric EX90 in the brand's top-tier lineup. This refreshed hybrid model is the first major update for any combustion-powered Volvo in years. The XC90 has been a popular vehicle for Volvo in its two generations, so this update is essential as the company continues to expand its electric offerings.

The new XC90 is anticipated to be a significant refresh of the current model, introduced in 2015, rather than a completely new version. A teaser image has been released, revealing a revamped headlight layout that improves upon the iconic Thor's Hammer design, featuring sleeker shapes and a more refined front-end appearance, complete with a fresh bonnet.

The general design is expected to take inspiration from the EX90, with the possibility of a smaller or no grille, as well as new aerodynamic wheel options in sizes up to 22 inches.

Major changes are expected inside, as the cabin will undergo a almost complete redesign. The new dashboard is said to be similar to that of the EX90, with a floating tablet display, fewer physical buttons, and high-quality, environmentally friendly materials used throughout.

Volvo has officially announced that the upcoming XC90 model will exclusively feature a hybrid powertrain. This powertrain is expected to be similar to the T8 setup, combining a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and a 19 kWh battery pack. In order to stay competitive with brands like BMW and Mercedes, Volvo's goal is to achieve an all-electric driving range of approximately 97 km, surpassing the current range of 72 km.

Furthermore, Volvo has teased some surprises for the media event on September 4, and regardless, the updated XC90 will be a valuable asset to its lineup of combustion-powered vehicles.
