MG IM5: 711 km of range and 392 kW charging, aimed at the Model 3

MG has revealed the IM5, an all-electric saloon shown at the Goodwood Festival of Speed alongside the IM6 SUV. The IM prefix marks its connection to IM Motors, a premium electric brand under MG's parent company SAIC.

The brand was originally intended to launch independently in Europe. MG instead markets these as high-end models within its own range — a sleek aerodynamic nose, flowing bodyside and a full-width rear lightbar shared across both cars.

Three variants

Standard, Long Range and Performance.

The IM5 Standard is priced at €46,000 at manufacturer level, positioning it against the Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive and coming in €640 cheaper. Long Range starts at €52,880, Performance at €56,180.

The Standard uses a 75 kWh battery for up to 655 km. Long Range moves to 100 kWh and 711 km — six kilometres more than the Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. The Performance keeps the 100 kWh pack but trades efficiency for a dual-motor layout.

An 800-volt architecture allows 10 to 80 percent in 17 minutes at a peak rate of 392 kW.

Output on the single-motor 100 kWh version is 402 hp and 680 Nm, with 0–100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The dual-motor Performance combines a 498 hp rear motor with a 268 hp front unit for 767 hp total and 3.2 seconds. Rear-wheel steering cuts the turning circle to 9.9 metres.

Inside, a 10.5-inch central touchscreen sits below a 26.3-inch display across the dashboard, with a panoramic roof, a 20-speaker system and double glazing standard.

What this means for a buyer in Cyprus

711 km is roughly three end-to-end runs across the island. Paphos to Ayia Napa is around 200 km. For almost every owner here, range stops being the constraint at this figure — the practical question becomes where you charge overnight, not how far you can go.

392 kW charging is faster than Cyprus can currently supply. The island's total installed public capacity is 15,472 kW across all sites `[VERIFY — confirm maximum output at a single charge point in Cyprus]`, and peak rates at individual chargers are well below what an 800-volt car can accept. The 17-minute figure is real, but not here yet. In practice home charging does the daily work, and the 800V architecture becomes an advantage later rather than now.

The 9.9-metre turning circle is worth more than it sounds. Old town streets in Limassol, Nicosia and the mountain villages were not laid out for modern saloons. Rear-wheel steering on a car this size is a genuine daily benefit here, not a specification-sheet flourish.

Check availability before anything else. MG has a European presence, but IM-badged models rolled out selectively. Cyprus requires right-hand drive, and that single question decides whether the rest of the specification matters.

Road tax on any fully electric car sits in the lowest Cyprus band — worth confirming the figure alongside the purchase comparison. See what is available on the island now.
