Smart car, known for its compact city cars, is now entering the mid-size SUV market with the electric Smart #5. This model, the brand's largest and most versatile yet, boasts ample interior space with a length of 4,705mm and a wheelbase of 2,900mm. Designed by Mercedes-Benz, the Smart #5 has a rugged and boxy look, unique lighting design, and floating wheel caps. The Summit Edition comes with an 'Adventurers' Collection package inspired by the Land Rover Defender, adding off-road features. With its practicality and distinctive design, the Smart #5 aims to make a mark in the competitive SUV market.
The Smart #5 boasts a high-tech interior filled with top-of-the-line features, including a 10.3-inch ultra HD driver's display, two 13-inch AMOLED 2.5 displays on the dashboard, and a 25.6-inch augmented-reality head-up display. It also includes a powerful Sennheiser sound system with over 2,000 watts of peak output and a generative AI voice assistant for answering questions. The cabin offers 34 storage compartments and all seats can be folded down to create extra space for a bed. With the rear seats folded, luggage capacity reaches 1,530 litres, and there's a 72-litre 'frunk' for additional storage under the bonnet. Technical details are limited, but the Smart #5 is powered by a 100kWh battery providing a range of over 460 miles on China's CLTC test cycle. Charging from 10 to 80 percent only takes 15 minutes thanks to the #5's 800-volt architecture and fast-charging capability.
The Smart #5's performance details have not been officially announced, but rumors indicate that it will come with both single and dual-motor powertrains. Potential options include single-motor versions with 335bhp and 386bhp, a dual-motor variant with all-wheel drive and 579bhp, and a high-performance model with a maximum of 637bhp. Pricing information has not yet been revealed.
