Description

A 7-seat luxury SUV in Obsidian Black Metallic with an options list that reads like a vehicle twice the price. This 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4MATIC was sourced from the Japanese market and is available now in Cyprus. It sits in the sweet spot of the GLE range — the inline-six with enough power to make the motorway disappear and enough refinement to make you forget there are two tonnes underneath you.

The 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six produces 362 hp and 500 Nm of torque, assisted by Mercedes' EQ Boost mild-hybrid system that adds up to 21 hp in short bursts and lets the vehicle coast with the combustion engine switched off entirely. A 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic and permanent all-wheel drive send power to all four corners. The result is 5.7 seconds to 100 km/h, which is fast enough to surprise anyone who assumes a 7-seater cannot be quick. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h. Combined WLTP consumption sits at approximately 8.3 litres per 100 km with CO2 emissions of 195 g/km, placing the annual Cyprus road tax at €450. The 85-litre tank covers Limassol to Paphos and back without a stop.

Japanese-market vehicles arrive in a condition European stock rarely matches. The roads are smoother, salt is never used on them and service intervals are treated as obligations rather than suggestions. That difference shows in the underbody, the panel gaps and the way the interior has aged.

The heads-up display is where this particular car separates itself. Speed, navigation instructions and safety alerts project onto the windscreen, keeping the driver's eyes forward rather than dropping to the instrument cluster. It seems like a gimmick until the first long drive with it, after which every vehicle without one feels a generation behind. Behind it sits the MBUX system across a twin-screen layout with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The premium audio covers all three rows evenly rather than concentrating everything in the front.

The front seats are heated and ventilated with memory function. Ventilation is not a luxury in Cyprus — it is the difference between a comfortable drive and 15 minutes of waiting for black leather to become survivable after an August car park. The cabin is finished in black leather throughout, matched to the Obsidian Black Metallic exterior, with wood trim across the dashboard and door panels. A panoramic sunroof runs overhead and floods the second row with light, giving the 7-seat cabin an openness the exterior dimensions do not suggest.

The third row folds flat into the floor when it is not needed. With all seven seats upright, boot capacity sits at approximately 630 litres. Fold the rear row and the load area expands into something that handles a full family holiday or a furniture run without a hired van. A powered tailgate opens on a button or a foot gesture under the rear bumper.

Adaptive cruise control with steering assist handles motorway distance and lane position. Lane-keeping assist corrects drift. Blind-spot monitoring watches the flanks, which matters on a vehicle this wide. A 360-degree camera system removes the guesswork from placing a 4.9-metre SUV into a Limassol parking space designed decades before SUVs existed. Parking sensors front and rear. Keyless entry and start. Folding mirrors. Start/stop to keep consumption honest in traffic.

Irakli was excellent. Above and beyond everywhere. The easiest car buying process I’ve had, and that's saying something since it was an import rather than a physical dealer. Everything was upfront from the beginning: price, fees, timing, what needed to happen, and what I needed to do. No weird negotiation, no surprises, no feeling like...
