Description

Most people look at a Mercedes-Benz V-Class and see a van. Those who commission one in Platinum Suite specification from Japan see something else entirely. They see a vehicle where the rear passengers matter more than the driver. Where the second row is not a compromise but the entire point. This Mercedes-Benz V220d Exclusive Long was built in June 2024, ordered to exact specification from the Japanese market and delivered to Cyprus with 11,000 km on the clock. It is the kind of car that changes how you think about getting from one place to another.

The Platinum Suite package is what separates this V-Class from every other on the island. Two individual captain chairs occupy the second row, each one wrapped in leather and loaded with functions that belong in a business-class seat at 35,000 feet. Ventilation pulls cool air through the perforated leather when the summer heat builds. Heating takes over when the mountain roads above Troodos turn cold. Massage works through the backrest in programmes that vary in intensity and pattern. A multi-position recline lets the occupant tilt back to near-flat for longer journeys. And a memory function stores all of it — position, angle — so the chair returns to exactly where its owner left it at the touch of a single button. Both chairs come with integrated armrests and storage, creating a natural boundary between passengers that reinforces the sense of privacy.

Mounted to the ceiling above the rear cabin is a DVD screen. It faces the captain chairs directly and turns the rear compartment into something closer to a private screening room than a back seat. For airport transfers to Larnaca, client meetings on the move or simply keeping children occupied on a long drive to Paphos, the screen changes the character of the journey completely.

The front of the cabin has not been treated as an afterthought. The driver's seat and front passenger seat are both ventilated — a detail that most V-Class configurations do not include. Both positions also feature a memory function, so the driver's preferred seating position, mirror angles and steering column height are recalled automatically. Heated front seats come as standard on this specification.

Under the bonnet sits a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 150 hp and 380 Nm of torque from 1,600 rpm. A 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox sends power to the rear wheels. The 0–100 km/h sprint takes approximately 12.1 seconds — a number that means nothing to anyone who commissions this vehicle. What matters is how the engine behaves at 100 km/h on the motorway with four passengers and luggage on board. The answer is: quietly. The low-end torque pulls without fuss, the gearbox shifts without announcement and the cabin stays hushed. Combined WLTP fuel consumption sits at approximately 7.9 litres per 100 km. CO2 emissions register at 161 g/km, placing the annual Cyprus road tax at a modest €205. The 70-litre fuel tank delivers a realistic range of close to 900 kilometres — enough to drive from Larnaca to Paphos and back three times before the fuel light appears.

The Exclusive Long body stretches to 5,140 mm in length, 1,928 mm in width and 1,930 mm in height on a 3,430 mm wheelbase. That extended wheelbase is where the rear cabin legroom comes from. The kerb weight of 2,530 kg reflects the density of soundproofing, equipment and structural reinforcement packed into every panel. This is not a light vehicle. It is not supposed to be.

Air suspension adapts the ride to the load and the road. Full of passengers and luggage on the way to Larnaca airport, it firms up. Empty on a coastal cruise along the Limassol seafront, it softens. The result is a ride quality that stays composed and controlled regardless of what the surface underneath is doing. Soft-close doors complete the experience — every door pulls shut with a gentle, silent latch. No slamming. No rattling. A quiet confirmation that the cabin is sealed and the outside world has been left behind.

A panoramic sliding roof adds airiness to the cabin. In daylight it floods the interior with natural light and makes the already generous space feel even larger. On warm evenings it opens entirely. A power tailgate handles the rear, while parking sensors and a 360-degree camera system make placing this 5.1-metre vehicle into tight Nicosia parking spaces far less stressful than the dimensions suggest. Folding mirrors tuck the width in at the touch of a button.

The Burmester premium audio system fills the cabin evenly — front to back — with a depth and clarity that most car audio setups cannot match. The MBUX infotainment system drives the cockpit, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto both supported. Adaptive cruise control takes over on the motorway. Lane-keeping assist corrects gentle drifts. Blind-spot monitoring watches the flanks. The start/stop system cuts the engine at traffic lights and brings it back without vibration.

Seven seats across three rows. Boot space behind the third row sits at approximately 610 litres with all seats upright — enough for a full airport luggage run. Fold the rear row flat and the cargo area opens into something that rivals a commercial van.

This vehicle was commissioned by its owner from Japan and delivered to Cyprus with full import, customs clearance and registration managed end to end. It is not for sale.

Irakli was excellent. Above and beyond everywhere. The easiest car buying process I’ve had, and that's saying something since it was an import rather than a physical dealer. Everything was upfront from the beginning: price, fees, timing, what needed to happen, and what I needed to do. No weird negotiation, no surprises, no feeling like...
