New BMW X7 seen for the first time, and it’s getting the Neue Klasse treatment

The excitement surrounding BMW's flagship SUV, the X7, is palpable as we receive confirmation of its return for a second generation—set to hit the roads in 2026! Just last month, BMW teased fans during its Q1 financial results call, revealing that it has already kicked off research and development for this stunning new model along with the much-anticipated Neue Klasse line-up which is set to launch soon with the innovative iX3. While news about a fifth-generation X5 is expected, the X7 is also gearing up for an exhilarating revival, possibly arriving as early as next year, and is anticipated to draw design inspiration from the futuristic Neue Klasse concepts. With its impressive proportions, the new X7 will undoubtedly reaffirm its status as the largest SUV in BMW’s line up, promising spacious seven-seat capacity to compete with heavyweights like the Mercedes GLS and the opulent Range Rover.

At the front, we can expect the new X7 to maintain its signature split headlight design, a feature that has become synonymous with both the current X7 and BMW’s luxurious 7 Series limousine. The preliminary shots of a camouflaged prototype showcase a robust headlight cluster positioned beneath a sleek LED strip, while a vertically arranged kidney grille sits stylishly at the centre. Observers are eagerly speculating whether this grille will seamlessly integrate with the headlights, akin to the sophisticated aesthetics seen in the Neue Klasse concept designs. Additionally, intriguing tabs on top of the side doors hint at an intriguing design element that has appeared on other BMW prototypes, including the upcoming X5. As for the rear profile, it may not deviate radically from its predecessor; however, the quad-tip exhaust system featured on this prototype suggests the thrilling possibility of a high-performance M50 or M60 variant. The sporty design is further complemented by an eye-catching overhanging roof spoiler, setting the stage for an extraordinary driving experience.

Underneath, the new X7 is poised to ride on an updated version of BMW's celebrated Cluster Architecture (CLAR). This versatile platform is engineered to support both traditional internal-combustion engines and state-of-the-art electric powertrains. While BMW has yet to confirm a fully electric variant of the new X7, they have trademarked the alluring 'iX7' nameplate, igniting speculation about the potential for an all-electric version. With BMW actively expanding its electric offerings across its core models, a buzzing iX7 wouldn’t be entirely shocking. The Neue Klasse initiative will first bring us the X3-sized iX3, followed by an all-electric 'i3' variant of the iconic 3 Series and even an electric 'i1' hatchback further down the line. Considering the electric components from the i7 could be utilized for the iX7, the potential for a thrilling all-electric SUV is on the horizon!

The i7's impressive engineering showcases a substantial 105.7kWh battery and delivers three distinct power outputs—offering a single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant boasting a robust 449 hp, a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version cranking out 537 hp, and a powerhouse dual-motor variant unleashing an astonishing 650 hp. Given the X7's SUV status, it is highly likely that BMW will opt to offer only the exhilarating dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations for this vehicle. With all of this anticipation, the excitement for the upcoming model is undeniable. If you can hardly contain your enthusiasm, exciting deals on the existing BMW X7 are readily available, giving you a glimpse of what awaits in this new chapter for BMW's largest and most luxurious SUV! Buckle up, because the future looks bright for the X7!
