Saloon Car Registrations Surge in Cyprus This May

Cyprus experienced a significant uptick in saloon passenger car registrations in May 2025, reaching 3,715 units—an 11.7% increase compared to May 2024, according to the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat). This figure also marks a notable rise from April’s 2,924 registrations.

However, despite the May surge, total saloon car registrations for the first five months of 2025 dropped by 5.5%, falling to 16,224 units from 17,176 during the same period last year.

Of these registrations, new cars accounted for 6,874 vehicles (42.4%), while used cars made up the majority with 9,350 units (57.6%).

Fuel-wise, petrol and hybrid models remain dominant, representing 43.7% and 42.9% of registrations, respectively. Electric vehicles gained ground, increasing their market share to 4.7% from 3.4% last year. Diesel-powered cars continued their decline, dropping to 8.8% from 10%.

Private vehicles comprised the bulk of registrations, totaling 13,927 out of the 16,224 saloon cars registered between January and May.

Toyota maintained its leading position overall with 2,784 registrations, followed by Mazda (1,687), Nissan (1,240), Kia (976), and BMW (953) rounding out the top five. Other popular brands included Mercedes (875), Volkswagen (666), Hyundai (560), Honda (531), and Audi (394).

In the new car segment, Kia led with 949 registrations, ahead of Volkswagen (560), Nissan (525), Hyundai (519), and Toyota (493). The rest of the top ten included BMW (393), Mercedes (331), Jeep (284), Renault (282), and Audi (243).

Used saloon cars continued to dominate Cyprus’s market, comprising over half of total registrations in the first five months. Toyota again led with 2,291 used registrations, followed closely by Mazda (1,653), Nissan (715), BMW (560), and Mercedes (544). Other notable used car brands included Honda (484), Land Rover (214), Suzuki (167), Audi (151), and Lexus (123).
