After years of struggling to compete with the latest electric SUVs, Mercedes has made the decision to discontinue the EQC from its lineup. Introduced in 2016 with the Concept EQ and officially launched in 2019, the EQC marked Mercedes' first foray into the mainstream EV market as its initial all-electric SUV. Unfortunately, the EQC was rushed to market without a dedicated electric platform, instead being based on the combustion-powered GLC. This led to limitations in range, efficiency, and interior space, with a weight of around two-and-a-half tonnes. As newer electric SUVs like the Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-Pace, Tesla Model X, BMW iX3 and iX, Porsche Macan Electric, Audi Q6 e-tron, and Polestar 4 entered the market, the EQC quickly fell behind.
The successor to the EQC has been spotted undergoing testing but is not expected to be available until 2025. In the meantime, buyers can explore the EQE SUV, which is built on a dedicated EV platform and features the latest technology from Mercedes. The upcoming electric SUV from Mercedes is anticipated to move away from the EQ branding, although the official name has yet to be confirmed.
